Scholarship
The Drywall Interior Systems Contractors Association, Inc. of New Jersey (DISCA) has a Scholarship Program for the children or grandchildren of management employees of companies contributing to the DISCA Industry Promotion Fund (IPF). The scholarships are to help defer the cost of college and other educational expenses for a two or four-year education at an accredited college or an accredited vocational school.

Eligibility

Applications for each year will be available in January and are due May 31st.

Applicants to the DISCA Scholarship Program must be:

  • The natural or legally adopted child, grandchild, stepchild, or stepgrandchild of a management employee of a company contributing to DISCA’s IPF. The contributing company must be in good standing and the employee must have a minimum of one year of full-time service with the company.
  • A high school student with plans to enroll in, or a student presently attending, a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school with a minimum of 12 credits per semester.
  • A company contributing to the IPF can only have up to two scholarship recipients per year. Employee eligibility must be certified by the employing company.
Awards
  • DISCA intends to have funds for up to four (4), $5,000 scholarships that can be awarded each year for up to four years.  Scholarships are up for renewal annually with the condition that the student maintains a clean disciplinary and criminal record, and complete a full course load with grades of C or higher in each enrolled course.
  • All scholarship awards and renewals are at the discretion of the DISCA Board of Directors or a designated Selection Committee. The number of scholarships awarded each year may vary depending on the number of qualified applicants and the financial status of the IPF.
  • Recipients who do not meet the academic standard or annual renewal, but are otherwise deemed worthy, may receive a reduced renewal award. This is based on the proportion of a full course load that the student passed in the previous year with grades of C or higher.
  • Scholarship payments are made in July and December/January of each year. Checks are addressed directly to the college or vocational-technical school where the scholarship winner attends.
  • Awards are intended to cover the student's cost of tuition, fees, textbooks, and other required educational materials, after any federal and state grants for which the student is eligible.
  • If there is an unused balance because the student fails to pursue the intended program, the unused balance must be returned to DISCA in a timely manner. If there is an unused balance and the student is making satisfactory progress in the intended program, the unused balance should be transmitted to the student for personal costs related to his/her education.
